Medical Repatriation to and from New Zealand

New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific

Medical care and coordination across regional and long-distance journeys.

ESAT coordinates medical repatriation to and from New Zealand, including medical escorts on scheduled flights and dedicated air ambulance arrangements. We plan the journey from the sending bedside to the agreed receiving destination.

Requests may involve Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown, Hamilton, Dunedin and regional locations. The medical plan includes local road transport and any connection needed to reach a suitable departure point.

We support transfers between New Zealand and Australia, Pacific destinations, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas. A journey can be regional or long-distance and does not need to involve the UK.

For journeys with more than one flight, we assess the complete route, including airport transfers, connection periods, clinical support and the onward handover. The most convenient passenger itinerary may not be the most suitable medical transfer.

Medical transport to and from New Zealand

ESAT reviews the patient and route before recommending a regional transfer, a scheduled-flight medical escort or a dedicated medical aircraft.

Medical escorts to and from New Zealand

A medical escort may support a clinically stable patient on a scheduled flight. Seating, mobility, equipment, airline clearance and the support needed across any connections are reviewed before travel.

Air ambulance arrangements

A dedicated air ambulance may be considered where the patient’s needs cannot be supported on a scheduled airline. The route, aircraft arrangements, medical crew and any required stops form part of the plan.

New Zealand medical repatriation FAQs

Can ESAT arrange a transfer between New Zealand and Australia?

ESAT can coordinate transfers in either direction, using an appropriate medical escort or air ambulance plan following clinical review. Ground transport and receiving arrangements can be included at both ends.

Can a patient travel from New Zealand to Europe with a medical escort?

A scheduled-flight medical escort may be appropriate for a clinically stable patient who meets the airline’s requirements. ESAT reviews the full long-distance route, connections, seating and support needs before recommending an itinerary.

Can you help with a departure outside Auckland?

We can assess requests involving other cities and regional locations, subject to operational availability. Local road transport or a connecting sector may be incorporated into the agreed transfer plan.

Does ESAT support journeys involving Pacific islands?

We can assess transfers between New Zealand and suitable Pacific destinations. Local facilities, transport access, permissions and aircraft or airline availability affect the route and timing.

What information is needed for a quotation?

Tell us the current hospital and location, intended destination and proposed timing. We will agree how to obtain the treating team’s current medical information and review the care, mobility and equipment requirements.

How much does repatriation to or from New Zealand cost?

The quotation reflects the route, transport method, medical team, equipment, flight sectors, ground transport and urgency. Long-distance or regional connections can affect the overall plan. ESAT provides a tailored price after reviewing the case.
